Guide to Buying a Pontoon

It’s not too late to be looking for your next boat, especially since we still have plenty of warm days ahead of us. And for some, choosing a pontoon can be the best way to enjoy a wide variety of on-water activities. But you’ll want to make sure it’s the right investment for you and your family so you’re not passing up another style of boat that might suit you a little better. Pontoon boats are particularly popular for bigger parties because they can accommodate a larger group of people. They’re built to give you lots of elbow room so whether you have a sizable family or you like to invite lots of guests, a pontoon can be a great way to give them all a place to sit and relax while you’re out on the water. You’ll just want to make sure you’ve got enough space for everyone. Depending on the size of your boat, you should be able to fit at least six passengers, if not a group size well into the double digits. If you know you’re going to be accommodating a particularly big group, you may want to make some adjustments so it’s more comfortable for them, like extra seating or freshwater or bathroom facilities. This can be particularly helpful if you’re going to be out on the water for an extended period of time. 

Fishing

A new fishing season is just around the corner, so maybe you’re looking for a boat to help you bag the biggest catch of the day. Pontoons are just as equipped for fishing as they are for families and there are many people who like the extra space one of these crafts gives you to let you store more supplies and not feel so cramped. You can get a model that comes complete with livewells, rod holders, and bait buckets so there’s a place for all your essentials. If you like to bring a couple friends along, then you know you’ll have room with a pontoon. You might also want to look for swivel fishing chairs to add a little bit of extra ease and comfort. Even overnight trips can be a breeze if you have a model with a cabin.  

Water Sports

The options don’t stop there. Even though pontoons aren’t technically speed boats, that doesn’t mean they can’t bring the heat. If one of your favorite entertainment options is water sport activities, then make sure you’re getting a pontoon to accommodate your passengers and your passions. Whether you’re into wakeboarding, tubing, or skiing, or even scuba diving, you’ll be able to hook up a towing line and have plenty of space to store your things while still having room left over for everyone else. Just make sure you’re getting the right size engine to match. Younger adventurers probably don’t need the most powerful engine, but more advanced enthusiasts will probably want the extra thrill.
