Improving Your Wake
Wakesurf boats are specifically designed to help create the best wake possible. Some models even have features that allow you to shape the wake itself! However, there are a lot of things you can do to further improve your wake, and thus improve your watersports experience. For tips on how to improve your wake, check out this guide from the experts at Germaine Marine.
Driving Wakeboard Boats
Speed is a big factor when it comes to creating a wake. Too fast, and your wakeboarder won’t be able to keep up. Too slow, and the wake won’t be any good. The sweet spot is typically between 20 and 25 MPH. While reaching that speed isn’t exactly a challenge, you also need to try to maintain a steady speed as much as possible. This will, in turn, create a more stable wake. You should also try to drive as straight as possible, as any turn you make will disrupt the wake.
Trimming Your Wake
Trimming your engine will make your bow rise and your stern go deeper into the water. This will, in turn, result in a larger wake. However, there is a danger of making the wake too steep or too close to the boat. Keep trimming your wake until things are just perfect. You can also try adjusting the weight distribution within your boat itself. The more evenly you distribute your weight, the more consistent your wake shape will be. Have your passengers sit evenly from right to left, and use weights to help account for any discrepancies. However, make sure that your vessel’s floor can handle it before you add extra weight.
Increasing Ballast
Once you are confident that your wake will be even, you can take steps to help make it bigger. This can be accomplished by using ballast. Some wakesurf boats have their own dedicated ballast systems. If your model doesn’t have these systems, you can invite more people or use weights to help increase your wake’s size. Whatever method you use, make sure that your wake is of an appropriate difficulty level for whoever is currently wakesurfing!
