Your boat is like an extension of you and it’s important to feel at home even when you’re out on the open water. You may feel like it’s not worth it or it’s too difficult to decorate the cabin of your boat, but it’s easy to do and affordable! You just need to be careful about the types of decorations you choose. Here are some suggestions on how to spice up the interior of your boat.

Change the Lighting

The drab fluorescent lights that probably came with your boat will help you find your way around, but they may not be as warm and inviting as you would like. Instead, put up LED strings of lights around the perimeter of your boat’s cabin for a soft, warm glow, or invest in some plastic and unbreakable lamps with LED bulbs. You can even get LED candles to create a cozier mood and they’ll be perfectly safe to use compared to standard candles, which are too dangerous to use on a boat.

Add Throw Pillows and Blankets

Your vinyl boat furniture is probably comfortable and easy to clean, but it might not look appealing. Add some color and warmth with a few throw blankets and pillows! Fleece and wool blankets are water-resistant and insulating, helping you and your guests keep out the chill on a cool evening. Coordinate your blankets and pillows for a unified look with contrasting colors and patterns.

Select Unbreakable Decorations

When putting up decorations, bear in mind that your boat is likely to pitch and roll with the waves, so anything that’s not mounted in place is liable to slide onto the floor. Sticky tack can help keep small decorations affixed to tabletops. Avoid using anything glass or paper, as both are fragile.

Don’t Clutter Your Space

Finally, because your boat’s cabin is small, you’ll want to make sure any decorations you choose don’t get in anyone’s way or have the potential to injure someone. Avoid sharp pointy things and heavy decorations that could injure someone if they fall over.
